SAT Subject Tests™ are college admission exams on specific subjects. There are 20 Subject Tests in five subject areas: English, history, languages, mathematics, and science.
Subject Tests test knowledge on a high school level. They’re generally given six times in the school year, on the same days and in the same test centers as the SAT. Each test is an hour long.
Here are some reasons for students to take SAT Subject Tests:
- SAT Subject Tests let students show their abilities in particular subject areas of their choice.
- Many colleges require, recommend, or consider SAT Subject Test scores in admission decisions.
- Some colleges use SAT Subject Test scores to make placement decisions or let students skip introductory-level classes.
